As a nation of dog lovers, our pets mean the world to us and are part of everything we do. So, it stands to reason we wouldn’t want to leave them behind on day trips and short breaks away. That’s why we’ve put together a list of all the pooch perfect things to do right here in Leicester & Leicestershire.

Highcross Leicester

How about taking your pooch on a shopping trip to Highcross Leicester? Did you know that its now dog friendly (for well-behaved dogs that is!). Plenty of the shops welcome dogs, so look out for the dog friendly stickers in shop windows


Leicester Coffee House

Leicester Coffee House combines good quality, ethically sourced, locally roasted coffee and even better company!  Meet Tommo the dog, Head of Customer Service at Leicester Coffee House and the perfect doggy companion for your pooch! All doggies are welcome so it’s the perfect pit stop after a long day shopping. 


The Exchange

In the heart of the Cultural Quarter, The Exchange stands tall as a relaxed, airy and friendly space for those mid-day meetings, after work drinks and light lunches. Dogs are welcome, so pop in for a water bowl and tipple du jour, as you watch the hustle and bustle of the city go by.


Foxton Locks

The Foxton Locks areas is a popular spot for dog walkers especially in the spring and summer, and dog owners are welcome to come in for a drink or some food after a long walk. Come to see the historic Grade II Listed canal locks, which feature an impressive ten locks and two staircases; making it the largest flight of staircase locks in England. Set in the heart of the Leicestershire countryside.

The K9 club  is free to join for any dog owner who visits the restaurant with their dog.  The dog receives a special doggie treat and a bowl of water in a special section of the restaurant that’s been put aside for them.


The Bradgate

This country pub is situated close to beautiful Bradgate Park, so it’s an ideal place to pop into before or after a stroll around the park.

There is a specific area of the pub where dogs are allowed inside and there is a lovely garden. Water bowls are provided.

The pub serves food - including pub classics, sandwiches and pizzas, cooked on the pub’s open plan stone bake oven - seven days a week.


The Old Horse

The Old Horse Pub is a 19th Century coaching inn situated a few minutes from the local railway station, 10 minutes from the town centre of Leicester.

When it comes to welcoming dogs there's no one that does it better than The Old Horse. It's very dog friendly and dogs are allowed in all areas of the pub including the large garden, as long as they are kept on a lead. Dog bowls are available.  Plus, there's even doggy Sunday dinners for them to enjoy!


Great Central Railway

All aboard! This dog friendly railway is the perfect way to explore Leicestershire. Leave from Quorn & Woodhouse Station to see the beauty amongst Leicestershire’s rolling hills, including Swithland Reservoir and Brazil Island. Train rides are available every weekend and usually during Bank Holidays. The railway has also won a number of awards including “independent railway of the year”, and a gold award for the East Midlands best visitor experience.


Everards Meadows

Everards Meadows is the perfect for a doggy walk with 70 acres of beautiful green space to explore and pedestrian walkways. 

You can walk across the meadows and along the Grand Union Canal, winding along the banks of the River Soar into Leicester City Centre or discover the stunning Leicestershire countryside


Dog Fest at Belvoir Castle

Bring your dog to DogFest Leicestershire, in partnership with ManyPets, and treat them to a day which guarantees to get their tails wagging at Belvoir Castle.

Try your paw at a variety of have-a-go activities from dog diving to agility, enter the Fun Dog Show for your chance to win Best in Show, or raise vital funds for Dogs Trust as you admire your surroundings on the Big Dog Walk.
