We've all been missing live face to face events but that doesn't mean you can't get your fix of what's happening in Leicester & Leicestershire, albeit virtually. Many of our local organisations have moved their usual live events into the virtual world and in particular are giving those home-schooling a much needed helping hand!


A much-needed splash of sunshine

A splash of sunshine is on its way as the Spark Festival returns after a very long and tough year with some much-needed colour. Check out the 2021 Festival programme with many free and pay-what-you-can events. You can look forward to beat boxing in the kitchen, rainforest scents and sounds on the sofa and an invitation to the veg party of the year. Intrigued???? To find out more about what you can expect join Zoom on Wednesday 20th January for a sneak preview. The special preview event will feature live music from Mellow Bark – Mm Ahhh Whoosh, Children’s poetry and a glimpse of what the festival has in store.

The Leicester Comedy Festival is back for its 28th anniversary festival programme from the 3-21 February. We might be in lockdown but the festival is very much going full steam ahead with a fantastic range of shows online and a brilliant line-up of podcasts plus loads more.

Ever wanted to know about printmaking? Leicester Print Workshop are developing a new online programme of exciting courses tailored to fit your needs, the courses are accessible, knowledgeable and suitable for all levels of experience.


National Space Centre

During lockdown the National Space Centre have been a fantastic source of online events aimed at young and old alike. The fun doesn’t end there though as they have fantastic downloadable resources available on the website including ‘How to make a Rainbow’, How to Make a Constellation Jar to ‘How to Make and Launch Your Own Rocket’. Sounds like a perfect Science lesson for the kids!


Home-schooling with Charnwood Museum

Want to learn more about the Bronze Age? Head over the to Charnwood Museum website with fantastic downloadable resources and activities to do at home plus you’ll find Number Searches, making things like an Egg Box Tipper Truck. Now that sounds like something to keep your kids interested!


Welcome to the Curve Classroom

For those of you home-schooling, we’re pretty sure you’ll be seeking extra support. Well, look no further than Curve Classroom. It’s the Curve’s new initiative to support home-schooling and lifelong learning. Available on their website or YouTube channel every weekday at 4pm, the free educational resources are delivered by a range of leading artists including Molly Lynch, Cathy Tyson, Hareet Deol and plenty of others. Lessons include English Language and Literature, analytical thinking, music, character work, choreography and lots more.


Curve - The Colour Purple

Building on the success of the first major stream Sunset Boulevard At Home, the Curve are now bringing audiences the magnificent The Colour Purple - At Home. The production is being streamed online in association with the Birmingham Hippodrome form 16 February - 7 March. Tickets are on sale now from the Curve website. This unforgettable story set in racially divided Southern America is staged by the team behind our 2019 production – Director Tinuke Craig, Musical Director Alex Parker and Choreographer Mark Smith – and celebrates life, love and the strength to stand up for who you are and what you believe in.


Phoenix At Home

Phoenix Cinema is back with Phoenix at Home to keep you entertained during lockdown. You can enjoy the latest film releases (with a percentage of rental fee going directly to the Phoenix), online courses, digital art and creative activities.


Daily Lockdown Music Sessions

Having taken inspiration from Joe Wicks, Leicester-Shire Schools Music Service (LSMS) has launched FREE daily music making sessions aimed at young pepole, initially until the half term. Sessions will take place on their YouTube channel at 3.30pm each weekday and will be posting information about sessions on their Facebook page. Take part in classes including homemade percussion sessions, beatboxing classes to weekly body percussion sessions.
