Screening in partnership with DMU. When a massive Chinese factory complex attempts a high-stakes expansion in rural Ethiopia, three women in search of prosperity have their faith in industrialization tested to the limit.
This screening is presented in partnership with DMU, there will be an introductory talk from Dr Mehmet Erman Erol and Dr Hiu Man Chan before the film.
In the heart of Ethiopia, the arrival of a sprawling industrial park finds a dusty farming town at the new frontier of globalisation. Formidable Chinese businesswoman Motto attempts to push through ambitious plans which promise 30,000 new jobs.
Meanwhile, Ethiopian farmers and factory workers have staked their future on the opportunities the park promises. But as initial hope meets painful realities, they find themselves, like their country, at a pivotal crossroads.
