Skating has become a staple of Christmas in Leicester and we can't wait to experience more magical moments as Leicester’s Real Ice Rink opens this December. If you’re looking to try the ice rink then we’ve got the low down on everything you need to know below, prices, opening times and much more.

When is the ice rink open?

The Ice Rink is open from Thursday 7 December – Sunday 7 January and open every single day except for Christmas Day. So why not book and make it a magical Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve or New Year’s day?

Opening hours are 10am (first session) – 8.45pm (last session). On Christmas Eve the last session is 4pm and it closes at 5.15pm.

How much does the ice rink cost?

Skate hire and a 45-minute session costs just £5 at super off-peak times. Off-peak tickets cost £11.50 for adults and £10.50 for children/concessions. Standard price tickets will cost £13.50 for adults and £11.50 for children/concessions. A full list of when these sessions are can be found on the Christmas in Leicester website.

Where can I book ice rink tickets?

Tickets are available to buy online at www.christmasinleicester.co.uk and in person at Visit Leicester Information Centre at the King Richard III Visitor Centre, 4a St Martins, Leicester, LE1 5DB (normal opening hours apply).

Are there any special sessions?

This year we’ve added some special quiet sessions on 26th and 28th December and 2nd and 4th January at 12.15pm when there will be no loud music. These are ideal for those with additional needs who prefer a more relaxed atmosphere without the risk of sensory overload.

There will be special DJ takeover nights on Friday and Saturday nights.

Can I make a group booking for the ice rink?

Absolutely! Groups of four or more people can receive a discounted price. The rink is also available to hire for Christmas parties and private events. If you are interested in arranging a large group (5 or more) or school visit, please contact our friendly team on: info@visitleicester.info

What time should I arrive and what’s the process?

Please make sure you arrive at least 30 minutes before your skating session is due to start. This allows enough time to get fitted with the correct size skates and to store personal belongings. Bags of any description are NOT allowed on the ice, so only bring essentials with you. We do provide a cloakroom (£2 charge). We accept no responsibility for personal belongings.

Can I wear my own skates?

Yes, you’re welcome to bring your own hockey or figure skates to wear. Please note this will not reduce the price of your ticket.

How old do you need to be to skate?

We recommend a minimum skating age of is 3 years old. Children 12 years old and under must be accompanied on the ice by a parent or guardian who is 16 years or over. Adults can borrow over shoe grips if they need to accompany a child but do not wish to skate. However, the accompanying adult would still be required to purchase a ticket. We have no upper limit, although you’re responsible for skating safely. Skating isn’t recommended for anyone with a serious illness, health concern, heart condition or pregnant women.

Can I book a skate aid for my child?

Yes, if they are under 1.2m tall. Tickets for skate aids can be purchased for £5 in the ice rink at the skate collection point, on a first come, first serve basis. Only card payments will be taken inside the ice rink.

Who is eligible for a concession?

Seniors and students are eligible for ticket concession. Please bring your valid ID or student card.

Is there a spectator area?

Yes, there is a free spectator area and viewing platform at our ice rink next to the Alpine Bar. Relax and grab a drink while you watch your loved ones glide round the ice.

Can I get a refund or transfer my booked session time?

We do not offer refunds on any purchased tickets or extras unless a session is cancelled for unforeseen circumstances. If your session has been cancelled, you’ll be able to transfer your ticket to another session, subject to availability.
