Leicester and Leicestershire are becoming ever more popular with travellers looking to spend a few nights exploring the region. If you’ve seen our Uncover The Story campaign, you’ll know just how much there is to see and do in the region, so we’ve put together this article listing some of the best and most unique hotels, B&Bs and places to stay in the county.
Stay in the city
Right in the historic heart of Leicester, St Martins Lodge is a stylishly renovated Grade II listed Georgian building offering fantastic views of Leicester Cathedral. With 28 luxury bedrooms and free parking, it’s the perfect place to explore the city from.

The iconic former Fenwick department store has recently been fully renovated to create The Gresham, Leicester’s newest Aparthotel. With all the facilities you’d expect from a boutique hotel plus the flexibility and comfort of apartment living, and a great new restaurant in Black Iron Social.
Victorian elegance abounds at the Mercure Grand Hotel which is just 300m from the train station. The impressive façade opens to the sweeping staircase, ornate ballroom and four-star rooms. And inside you can find Marco’s New York Italian, featuring dishes chosen by legendary chef Marco Pierre White.
Escape to the Country
Escape to the country in style with luxury glamping location Mallory Meadows. Nestled in a pretty 2.5 acre site in the heart of the beautiful west Leicestershire countryside, four rustic wooden cabins and two luxurious roundhouses, each with an indulgent private hot tub are the perfect place to rest and recharge.
Right in the heart of the National Forest, Hastings Retreat offers a complex of barn conversions alongside a three acre fishing and recreation lake for exclusive use by guests. Just five minutes from the historic town of Ashby de la Zouch and next door to Hicks Cycle Lodge, it’s the perfect place to start exploring Leicestershire.
A picture perfect rural hideaway – The Red Barn can be found near Melton Mowbray and as it sleeps eight (plus two kids) it’s the perfect place for a family getaway. Part of a conservation village on the edge of the Vale of Belvoir, there’s so much to discover from this beautiful country bolthole.
Sleeping under canvas now means luxury thanks to Dandelion Hideaway and their award-winning glamping holidays. Six secluded canvas cottages are perfect for a family getaway and two ‘Bluebells’ offer a more private romantic getaway with their own canvas lodge and hot tub.
Unique holiday experiences
Made from locally sourced materials and situated in a woodland clearing within private parkland in the grounds of Staunton Harold Hall, Deerpark Lodge is surrounded by 28 acres of private land, with magnificent lakes upon which guests can fish by arrangement and numerous walks throughout the estate.
Yet another short break in luxury surroundings, but this one is on the water! Leicestershire has more than 70 miles of waterways and you could explore them by narrowboat with Luxury Canal Boat Hire. Ascend and descend the famous Foxton locks or explore Wistow’s Rural Centre as you cruise along the canals.
Enchanting Mongolian Yurts in the middle of Leicestershire? That’s what’s on offer at Country Bumpkin Yurts. Just a few miles south of Market Harborough, this combines eco-friendly living with rustic luxury to provide a glamping experience you can feel good about.
Leicestershire offers no shortage of bed and breakfast properties, with two of our favourites being the No 3 B&B in Market Bosworth which offers modern interiors in a period property, or Horseshoe Cottage Farm in Cropston offering an eco-friendly getaway in the heart of the National Forest.
A little bit of luxury
If you’re visiting Belvoir Castle, then you can stay there in style with a selection of tents, a Shepherd’s Hut or Gypsy Wagon all in the beautiful surroundings of the Vale of Belvoir. The Castle gardens are within walking distance and the Engine Yard is close by with all the locally sourced food you could possibly want.
Stapleford Park near Melton Mowbray is known as one of the great English country estates, and you could stay in one of their rooms, suites or cottages (including pet friendly options!) With horse riding, bike hire, archery and falconry also on offer, this is the place for unique experiences.
Kilworth House Hotel offers an enchanting blend of Victorian opulence, fine food and contemporary luxury. Guests can stay in style in one of the period rooms, before wandering through the 38 acres of landscaped parkland.
Just outside Leicester city centre, the Grade II listed Winstanley House was first known as Braunstone Hall and then as a school. It has now been converted into a boutique hotel, luxury venue, and is home to the amazing Black Iron steakhouse restaurant
