A day of space, technology and cinema

Are you ready for an out of this world experience in Leicester? Well this day will take you to another galaxy and through history, ending in a world only your imagination could conjure up!

You will start your day at Leicester’s world-famous National Space Centre. Open from 10am, you can marvel at the rockets inside the Space Centre’s 42 metre tall tower, walk through a recreation of the International Space Centre, have your mind blown by the UK’s largest Planetarium and learn the answer to all the space related questions you didn’t even know you wanted answered!

This tour through space is going to take you all morning, and you’re going to want to refuel, so stop in the Space Centre’s café for freshly brewed coffee, nachos, hot dogs or sandwiches. Sit under the satellites as you eat, and you might even experience a launch in the rocket tower!

Just a short walk away from the Space Centre is Abbey Pumping Station. Here you can look at how earlier forms of technology shaped Leicester and how the city solved its sewage problems. Yes, this is a museum all about poo. How we dealt with it, disposed of it and how we made the city safer as a result. The museum is a real steam enthusiasts dream, with vintage vehicles and four of the country’s only working steam powered beam engines.

Back into the city for your evening, head to the Highcross and St Peter’s Square where there are loads of places to eat to suit all budgets. From the Eastern flavours of Wagamama to Pizza Punks and Italian flavours of Zizzi, settle back and enjoy a filling family meal before you finish off your day with a film at Showcase Cinema de Lux. With at least 10 films to choose from, there’s guaranteed to be something for everyone to enjoy.
