About

Wish You Were Here, The Legacy of Thomas Cook

The Wish You Were Here exhibition, is a jubilant exploration of holidays and day trips over the last 100 years.

The people of Leicester are just as partial to a day trip to Skegness as a holiday in the sun.

The exhibition displays objects from the expansive social history collections at Newarke Houses Museum. The objects displayed highlight themes around travel, day trips, the essentials of packing for holiday and going to the beach. Memories are evoked through the souvenirs we bring home.

This exhibition is presented alongside the Don't just book it, Thomas Cook it: Journeys around the world exhibition at New Walk Museum & Art Galllery from 11 July – 18 October. Exploring Thomas Cook's history and Leicester's 'birthplace of popular tourism'.
