The Virtual Orchestra

The Virtual Orchestra

Venture inside a virtual orchestra in a free installation in Leicester city centre.

Brought to you by the Philharmonia Orchestra, resident orchestra at De Montfort Hall, this immersive experience invites you to explore a symphony orchestra from the inside. Journey through a 10-room installation; play along with the percussion; and sit on stage with the Orchestra in 360-degree virtual reality, all for free.

Family workshops

Led by music specialists, these friendly bespoke sessions filled with fun hands-on activities for all ages will guide you and your family through a symphony orchestra. Tickets cost £3 per person.

Free guided tours

Join the orchestra for curated journeys through The Virtual Orchestra and travel from violins to percussion. Gain inside knowledge on Holst's The Planets and the Philharmonia for free. No booking required, see for times.

Quiet hour

The Virtual Orchestra will raise the lighting level slightly and reduce the volume for one hour on Monday mornings. This is intended for audiences who may find The Virtual Orchestra (including its loud noises and dark setting) an anxious experience. See for times.

Hear Philharmonia Orchestra musicians and local artists perform live at The Virtual Orchestra Fringe. Activities range from retro computer games to storytelling. Visit for event dates, times and locations.
