About

Medieval Playtime

This October Half Term is all about playtime at Leicester’s award-winning King Richard III Visitor Centre.

There are medieval games galore at the Visitor Centre during Half Term and visitors can discover how children played during the time of King Richard III.

Medieval board games such as ‘Fox and Geese’ and ‘Nine Men’s Morris’ will be available, and visitors can try their hand at ‘Cup and Ball’ or ‘Hoop and Stick’ – both popular medieval toys. The more competitive visitors can race against their families with a hobby horse or try to win a round of the more modern game of King Richard III Top Trumps.

After all that play, and for those who love a bit of crafting, there’s the chance to make a peg King or Queen, or a crown! Visitors can also transform themselves into a medieval king, princess, or a knight with dressing up and real armour and we have shield rubbing and a Boar Hunt for our younger visitors to enjoy.

And if all that wasn’t enough to keep the whole family busy, there’s the incredible story of King Richard III to discover. Find out almost everything there is to know about the much-maligned king – his life, death and the discovery and identification of his remains. No visit is complete without seeing the actual place where the king’s remains lay undiscovered in a car park for over 500 years.

The Visitor Centre’s White Boar Café makes a great pit stop halfway around the exhibition, with its kids’ menu just for the school holidays and if visitors want to carry on playing after they leave, there is a range of toys and dressing up ideas in the Centre’s gift shop.

Events and craft activities take place from 16th – 24th October and are included in the price of admission to the Visitor Centre. Once purchased, admission tickets can be used for unlimited visits for a whole year, so visitors can return to the Centre’s other events during the year.
