Lucy Jones: Awkward Beauty

About

Lucy Jones: Awkward Beauty

Following a significant exhibition of new works at Flowers Gallery, London, the Attenborough Arts Centre is thrilled to host this major retrospective of Jones' work spanning three decades.

Now 64, Jones was born with cerebral palsy, a lifelong condition affecting her movement and coordination. She rarely talks about her disability, but her painting, particularly her fearless new self-portraits, address it with a new-found boldness.

"It's hard to think of any contemporary artist working in the UK now who has overcome as much adversity as Jones. So why hasn't she received more attention? To overlook her humane and timeless work would be foolish: she is an empathetic observer of the human condition, and of human vulnerability - the things that make every one of us a bit "wobbly".
The Guardian, June 2019

The exhibition will also feature a new portrait of Grayson Perry, titled The Seeing Orator, recently commissioned by the Attenborough Arts Centre, and a stunning collection of Jones' landscape paintings.

The exhibition will run from Saturday 27 July – Sunday 6 October 2019 (closed Mondays).

Join on Friday 26 July between 5.30-8.30pm for a glass of something cool to celebrate the opening of Lucy Jones' landmark exhibition Lucy Jones: Awkward Beauty. The preview is free but booking is recommended - book now
