The year 2021 celebrated the University of Leicester's centenary, marking 100 years of education at the University of Leicester.
They are giving local schools, the local community and members of the public the opportunity to visit their historic campus and discover the history of the University and the surrounding area. Self-guided tours and guided tours (date dependant) will explore the themes of peace and remembrance through visiting the University of Leicester's campus, the Arch of Remembrance and Peace Walk in neighbouring Victoria Park. The University of Leicester was founded as a living war memorial, 'a palace of peace'. These founding ideas are what they proudly cherish and they would like everyone to learn more about the history of the local area and their links as a city to historical conflict and peace.
It is advised self-guided and guided walking tours take around 2-2.5hrs to complete but may be completed quicker if desired.
For this project, the University of Leicester kindly received funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, with thanks to the National Lottery players.
