Leicester Festival of Health

Leicester Festival of Health

Come along to a Health Fair with a difference, on Saturday 6 July, 11am – 3pm at the University of Leicester. Have a great day, enjoy fun activities and learn about the health and safety of the ones you love.

The 'pay as you feel' event will feature something for everyone, including:

Health information and advice
Information stalls about local health services
Face painting
Teddy bear clinic
Mini Bikers
Food stalls
Treasure hunt
and much more.

The Leicestershire Partnership Trust, University Hospitals Leicester, Leicester Council's Public Health Department and other local and community groups will work together to provide advice, help and information on a range of health concerns, offering advice on issues such as:

Breast checks
Infant Feeding
Mental wellbeing (children and adults)
Stopping smoking
Home birth team
Heart Disease
Air Quality
Daily mile programme
And much more!

In our special Children and Teen's Zone, teenagers can find out about sexual health, stress relief and feel the effect of beer goggles, while children can engage in activities around issues like dental health, mental wellbeing, school readiness, and hand-washing while taking part in fun health-related activities at the Creation Station or paying a small donation to get their face-painted.

Medical students will run a teddy bear's clinic, and the Attenborough Arts Centre will use work-shops to demonstrate the benefit of art on mental health. You may knead (and keep) your own bread dough to help relieve stress! You can receive defibrillator training from Leicester University Community First Responders, and CPR training from Heartwize in our Learning Zone, as well as find out about careers or further study in medicine and allied health professions.

The Healthy Lifestyle Zone will have a rolling programme of 20-minute Bollywood Dance and Zumba sessions.

Outside the main marquee, our visitors will be entertained by medieval jousting from Enter Edem, bouncy castles, lawn games and you can party with your little ones with Bambino Disco!

There are plenty of picnic areas if you would like to bring your own food, or there will be plenty of refreshments on offer, for example:

Here4U University outlets
Chilled and Grilled
Tilly's Mobile VW Ice Cream Parlour
Penny's Fruit and Veg stall
Pick's Organic Farm
A Bite Different
Picnic Boxes for children

All this to a back-drop of performances from: The Levy band, LALU Ukele (1pm), Nicole Mirams on the flute (1.30pm), the UHL Highs & Lows Diabetes Children's Choir (2.15pm) and the Breathe Easy Choir (12pm).

You can also join the Leicestershire Partnership Trust at their Annual Public Meeting. This will be 12-1pm in the Ken Edwards Lecture Theatre. Find out more about local mental health, learning disability and community halth services.

Through engaging in health advice, physical activities, relaxation sessions and informative workshops, our Health Festival aims to educate people to make positive choices around their own health and wellbeing while providing a fun day out for the whole family.

This event is free of charge but guests are asked to donate whatever you feel to the below charities:

Leicester Hospital Charities
Raising Health - LeicesterShire and Rutland's Community and Mental Health Charity
Parking is available for free in our Welford Road car-park, and there are cycle parks under the library concourse.
