DMU Music is proud to introduce their Black History Month Series of International Jazz in collaboration with Serendipity and Leicester Jazz House
Last but certainly not least in their first Black History Month Series is the wonderful Julia Biel Quartet on Thursday 25 October. Tipped as 'the best British vocalist to emerge in an age' by The Independent, the MOBO-nominated jazz vocalist and singer-songwriter's self-titled album 'Julia Biel' was released to reveal twelve more exquisite songs to add to the artist's growing catalogue.
Delivered with unique warmth and drawing on the spirituality of gospel music, the joie-de-vivre of soul, the sorrow of blues and the freedom of jazz, her voice evokes all this and more whilst poetic lyrics reveal a sharp perspective on life and love against a magical backdrop of music to lose yourself in.
"Julia Biel has a great voice. That is possibly the understatement of the year so far... her interpretive and poetic style in her own compositions is wondrous.. She is amazing."
- Jazz in Europe
"A voice of supreme subtlety and honeyed depth. Her mesmerizing voice and magnetic stage presence should encourage many to follow where she leads…"
- The Guardian
"Biel's third solo album confirms her knack for penning smart, intimate songs and delivering them in a voice both crystalline and dreamy… a total delight." - The London Evening Standard ****
Tickets for this event are only £5 for DMU students and staff, £12 full price. Book your tickets here or get them on the door, open at 19.30 (cash only).
