2019 is the centenary of the death of the Leicester born renowned Arts & Crafts designer-maker Ernest Gimson.
Born in Leicester in 1864, he studied architecture in London before moving to the Cotswolds where he established his workshops at Daneway, near Sapperton. Best known for his furniture, metalwork and plasterwork, Gimson also designed for embroidery, bookbinding and more. His architectural work includes two houses in Leicester and three cottages in Ulverscroft.
The only property amongst these open to the public is Stoneywell, originally built for his brother Sydney, and now owned by the National Trust.
To mark the centenary the museum and authors of "Ernest Gimson: Arts & Crafts Designer and Architect" have organised a special study day, inviting Ernest Gimson experts to provide a fascinating insight to his life, designs and architecture.
Tickets £45 / £55 to include finger buffet lunch.
To book for the study day, please contact New Walk Museum on 0116 225 4920 or email bookings-newwalkmuseum@leicester.gov.uk with your name, contact details and the number of places you wish to book.
