About

Diwali Day

Our annual Diwali Day celebrations are back!

In a change to previous years, the main entertainment stage, usually sited near to the Belgrave roundabout, will be replaced with two giant screens located on Belgrave Road showing a recorded cultural programme that will run throughout the evening. A third giant screen will be located on Cossington Street Recreation Ground.

The cultural programme featuring dance, music and religious ceremony will be shown on the giant screens every hour from 5.30pm to 8.30pm.

This year, the annual firework display will be replaced with a warm and light Fire Garden on Cossington Street Recreation Ground and a Global Rainbow will beam light across the city. Created by visual artist Yvette Mattern, and funded by Global Streets and Arts Council England, this amazing sight can be seen for up to 60km. If you see it tag us in your pics #GlobalRainbowLeicester

From 3pm - 9pm the Diwali Village will be open featuring food, stalls and funfair rides.

Stay tuned on the Diwali page for more updates and events, and for more information take a look at the 2021 Diwali Guide

Leicester's Diwali celebrations are generously supported by the University of Leicester

If you’re coming to the event do a quick lateral flow test before you go out, wear a face covering in crowds and indoor spaces, and please stay at home if you feel unwell.
