About

Christmas on Campus: University of Leicester

Come along to the University of Leicester's annual Christmas on Campus extravaganza.

The three-day festive celebration, which is free and open to the public, will take place on the University's main campus from Thursday 7 to Saturday 9 December from 10am to 8pm. A range of events and activities for students, staff and members of the public will include a Christmas market, carousel, ice rink, pantomime and much more.

The festivities kick off on Thursday 7 December, when you will find the campus adorned with a Christmas carousel and a synthetic ice rink. These will be running for all three days of the festivities, along with the Enactus Farmers' Market - promising some of the best local produce, artisan items and fresh food cooked on site throughout the day. You might even hear the jingle-jangle of Santa's reindeer, with a chance to meet Rudolph and friends in the petting area from 10 am to 2 pm.

On the evening of Thursday 7 December, expect to find the campus decorated with hand-crafted yarn-bombs- colourful displays of knitted or crocheted yarn designed to turn Leicester into a woolly wonderland. At 5.00pm, the University's Christmas tree lights will be switched on, followed by carols in the square. There will also be a Festive Alumni gathering.

On Friday 8 December, the Christmas market will be up and running once again from 10am. In the afternoon, the "Great Christmas Bake Off" competition will culminate with a special group of judges choosing the winner among twelve festive cakes baked by staff and students. This will be followed by a bake sale.

In the evening, from 5:30 pm to 6:45pm, the University will present to you a fun-filled panto adventure - "Goldilocks and the Three Bears" – courtesy of Chaplins Pantos. The panto will take place in the Charles Wilson Sports Hall.

A series of family-oriented activities will be taking place as the festivities continue on Saturday 9 December. Alongside the Christmas market, highlights will include a Santa meet-and-greet on the square from 4.30pm to 6.00pm, a giant snow-globe and a meet-and-greet with characters Elsa and Olaf from Disney's Frozen with opportunities for photos.
