Christmas Lights Switch-On

Christmas Lights Switch-On

The most wonderful time of year kicks off on Thursday 22 November with Leicester’s Christmas Lights Switch-On - sponsored by Octopus Energy.

Family, friends, and loved ones once again flock to the city centre to gather at Humberstone Gate for the official lights switch-on and a fantastic programme of stage entertainment from 5pm onwards, with live music and entertainment from X Factor winner Sam Bailey and BBC Radio Leicester’s Martin Ballard as Dame.

For the first time, the switch-on of Leicester’s Christmas lights will be broadcast live on TV, thanks to our partnership with ITV News Central. We’re also delighted that ITV News Central weather presenter Des Coleman will be with us on switch-on night, and he’ll be helping to host the stage programme.

Marvel at seasonal street artists around the city centre and don’t miss the lights being switched on at 6.20pm with the Lord Mayor and Santa Claus. Our wonderful Christmas Tree, sponsored by PPLPRS will be a glistening centrepiece alongside the iconic Clock Tower. Over on New Market Square, enjoy an award-winning selection of street food & drinks, plus entertainment with A Christmas Canteen. Open from midday to 10:30pm, It’s the perfect place to meet up with friends and family throughout the day.

Fantasy lovers will be enchanted by this year’s Alice In Wonderland Christmas tableau in Town Hall Square. The traditional nativity scene will also be set up, along with Christmas carols and a brass band performance to put you in the festive mood.
