About

Christmas in the Gardens

The dark winter skies over Cathedral Gardens will be bathed in light this Christmas, as BID Leicester and St Martins House present Christmas in the Gardens.

This serene corner of the city will only get more beautiful as the night sky draws in. Imagine a giant inflatable sphere, four metres across, glowing with intense colours and imagery, and suddenly you see the faces of you and your friends appear in the quirky animations. Welcome to the world of LightWeight.

This unique and interactive installation will be the centrepiece of Cathedral Gardens this Christmas. The specially commissioned twilight show will enchant people of all ages. Watch as video and animation effects spin magically around the entire surface of the globe. You can even see your very own animated portrait dancing across the structure – just strike a pose in the face-recognition camera booth. Will your image be in a flock of mischievous angels flapping around the sphere, or the face of another quirky animated character? Come along and see for yourself!

Leicester Cathedral will be up lit to provide a stunning backdrop to the festivities, along with twinkling tree lights and seasonal activities creating a magical atmosphere.

Christmas in the Gardens is brought to you by BID Leicester and St Martins House, and produced by Big Difference Company.
