About

Built For Sound

It's Thursday Night. It's 7 o'clock. It's Top of the Pops!

Kate Jackson - artist, painter, and frontwoman of The Long Blondes – unveils a new multidimensional project, Built For Sound, launching 17th December 2021 and running until the end of January 2022.

Inspired by classic pop music television of the early 80's, this Arts Council funded project is centred around a new installation work, including sculptural and audiovisual elements, to be exhibited at LCB Depot, a creative hub based in Leicester's Cultural Quarter.

With Built For Sound conceived while strict restrictions were still in place, Jackson wanted the installation to highlight the absence of performance, while still recreating the atmosphere and excitement of the stage. Within the gallery space she is constructing a stage-set, including huge three-dimensional bold graphic paintings, lighting design and looping sound work.

During its six week run at LCB Depot, the installation will also provide a space for filmed live music performances, a hands-on synthesiser workshop, and disco events for babies/toddlers and people with learning disabilities.
