From the classical period onwards the creation of art and architecture and its stylistic development has been marked by creative reuse and stylistic tributes to earlier styles.
Through overview and discussion and detailed case studies, this course will consider why certain styles and themes continue to fascinate creators and how materials are reanimated and transformed into new artworks and settings.
This is a seminar-style course which combines information sharing, group discussion and debate and the close study of individual works and related historical sources and academic writings.
