Andrea Scarpati: Traditional Italian at Sapori

Andrea Scarpati, head chef and owner of Sapori in Anstey, Leicestershire, has made a name for himself with his traditional Italian cooking, using the area's best produce.

Born in the Torre del Greco area of Napoli, Andrea trained at a catering college in Castellammare di Stabia for five years, working in local restaurants evenings and weekends. After gaining experience across Italy, he decided to start his own restaurant in the UK.

Andrea and his wife Cristina and her brother Luigi transformed an old working men's club into Sapori Restaurant & Bar in 2011. Since then, the restaurant has built an international reputation for its food and service.

Andrea is committed to using seasonal produce to let the ingredients shine. His skill and dedication have earned him many awards throughout his career, including two AA Rosettes and a place in the Michelin Guide. Sapori has also been in the Good Food Guide every year since 2014.

In 2017, Andrea was made a member of CHIC (Charming Italian Chef), an Italian association of chefs. In 2023, he became an Ambassador of Taste for DOC Italy – a special elevation that recognises the contribution of an elite chef to promoting and preserving their region's cuisine.

Andrea's passion for traditional Italian cooking and commitment to using local produce has made him a respected and admired figure in the industry.
