About

Gigs in the Gardens

Summer is by far the best time to enjoy live music, and what could be better than De Montfort Hall's gorgeous outdoor space with stunning views.

Join De Montfort Hall as they open up their gardens for a summer of large-scale outdoor events taking place across the last two weekends of August.

Mancunian wordsmith Bugzy Malone is one of the UK’s brightest grime talents and will be first up on Friday 16th August. The artists debut album 'Walk With Me' reached Number Two on the UK iTunes album chart and has received millions of views on You Tube. Alongside him will be Yxng Bane who first made waves when he dropped Lone Wolf on Soundcloud two years ago as a 19-year old. Despite being unknown, the song amassed 790,000 plays. North Londoner Wretch 32 will also be performing, having come a long way since his early days with Grime Collective; Combination Chain Gang. In 2011 the rapper hit the peak of the UK charts with ‘Don’t Go’, one of the top five charting singles from his debut Black and White.

That’s just day 1! Don’t miss the amazing line up on Saturday 17th August including Busted, the band that broke into public consciousness in 2003 with a fistful of hook-laden pop songs. With 4 UK number one’s, 2 Brits, 4 studio albums to their name, and over 5 million records sold, they are definitely a band you’ll want to see!

Scouting for Girls will also be joining them on the day - the pop-centric London trio will be playing a collection of new material and classic songs this summer. To date, Scouting for Girls have sold over 2,000,000 records, and have been nominated for four Brits and one Ivor Novello Award.

To end a perfect first week will be the Kaiser Chiefs, The Vaccines and The Twang. The Kaiser Chiefs are one of Britain’s most treasured bands and will be performing tracks from their extensive catalogue of work, hot on the heels of the release of their latest album.

Make sure you’re there for one of the biggest and most adored British bands of the 21st century – The Vaccines as they come to De Montfort Hall’s garden. Birmingham rockers The Twang, best known for songs including Twit Twoo, Elusive Soul and Put It On The Dancefloor will also be performing.

Friday 23rd August will see Groove Armada and DJ’s Pete Tong and Danny Howard taking over the outdoor stage. Meanwhile, BBC Introducing East Midlands will be curating a day of local music with up and coming bands on Saturday 24th August. How about electropop mixed with R&B and 90’s house sounds on Sunday 25th August? Don’t miss Years and Years whose single ‘King’ from their debut album reached number one in the UK singles and made top 10 charts around the world.

On the same day Jax Jones will be entertaining the crowds with his unique songs that resonate with his thousands of fans.

The Gigs in the Gardens series will conclude on Monday 26 August with the Bardi Symphony Orchestra, performing popular film and stage classics including John William’s best-loved pieces from Star Wars, ET and Raiders of the Lost Ark – before a spectacular firework encore.
