The freeport management team has also revealed that SPace Park Leicester will be included as the freeports first cutomer site. Great news for Space Park and Leicester!

The East Midlands Freeport is England's only inland freeport and is based around East Midlands Airport and will take in 533 hectares of development at three sites - Castle Donington’s EMA, the East Midlands Intermodal Park (EMIP) and the Ratcliffe-on-Soar Power Station redevelopment site.

The Freeport will receive up to £25 million seed funding from government and potentially hundreds of millions in locally retained business rates to drive growth in the UK's advanced manufacturing, biomanufacturing, logisitics and low carbon industries.

Officials believe it will also help encourage investment into other sectors, including the automotive and space sectors.

Estimates suggest the Freeport will create more than 28,000 new jobs, with EMA a key part of the project, but work at the other two sites will be key. At Ratcliffe-on-Soar Power Station, work will be focused on low-carbon energy and advanced manufacturing, while EMIP will see work on moving freight from the road to the rails in a bid to boost business and cut emissions.
