It's been a long few months, but in a strange way it feels like Autumn has arrived far too soon. Summer is now firmly behind us and we're back with October Highlights including top things for you to see and do in Leicester & Leicestershire this month. All at a sfae distance of course!

Black History Month

Black History month takes place every October with a programme of events that highlights the incredible history and contributions made by the African and Caribbean communities. As with everything, the impact of Covid has changed the programme of events this year and the same is true of Black History month, which will now include more digital programming and outdoor exhibitions. Black History month kicks off with a Resilience Exhibition covering photography, film, illustration, manga comic art and visual art. One not to miss!

Journey's Festival International

Another festival that has made Leicester it's home! Journey's Festival International is back this month for 3 weeks and explores the life of asylum seeking refugees using dance, comedy, art and much more. For the first time, the Leicester, Manchester and Portsmouth festivals combine their programming to bring 3 weeks for digital creativity, online content and world-class cultural experiences. 

Picnic Pop Up

Have you ventured down to Green Dragon Square lately? (formerly known as New Market Square) l. If you haven't make sure you don't miss out on a chance to have a spot of lunch al fresco. Sitauted between Knight & Garter and Leicester Market you'll find picnic tables, shaded parasols and fabulous plants all arranged for social distancing. You can bring food form one of the cities rfestaurants or cafes or if you prefer you can get no-contact delivery service from Deliveroo, EatMe, UberEats and Owlgetit delivered straight to the main entrance. Picnic Pop Up is only here for a few more weeks (22 October) so make sure you head down there pretty soon. 

Brick City

Lose yourself in the world of Lego...we might not be able to travel very far for a while, but explore iconic buildings from around the world at the Brick City exhibition taking place at Leicester Museum. Visit New Zealand to New Orleans, skyscrapers in New York to Mecca or imaginative castles in medieval Japan to modern and trendy Las Vegas! You will need to book, but tickets are FREE!

Van Gogh Immersive Experience

Following the easing of lockdown restictions, Van Gogh:The Immersive Experience is open with fantastic saftey measures in place making your visit a safe one. Experience the immersive universe of Van Gogh, one of the world's greatest geniuses in the last century. Cutting edge technology and virtual projection propels you into the spectacular world of Van Gogh including a glance into his life at the convent in Arles to the secret letters he wrote to his brother. 

Street Stories

Now here's an exciting addition to the many wonderful attractions we have the city. An augmented art trail by BID Leicester & Arch Creative which celebrates Leicetser's rich heritage and the pioneers linked ot the city. It's a collobaration of ten local artists depicting different styles and medium of art bought to life using a smartphone app. Follow the trail around the city and learn about the inspirational people linked to the city, but remember to adhere to social distancing guidelines!

National Space Centre

FRI-YAY! We all look forward to Fridays and here's another reason why! National Space Centre launches its SciFri activities on 2 October every Friday during school term time, with sunrise sessions, artefacts from the vaults, live science shows and a treat for the 250th visitor. The perfect day out but with significantly reduced capacity. Booking is essential!

LFPS Annual Photo Exhibition

Discover inspirational art from the comfort of your own sofa! The best thing is no face masks are required. It's the first virtiual photogrpaghy exhibition from Leicester Forest Photogrpahic Society.

The Big Escape

Have fun with the family in The Big Escape. Race around the city cracking codes, solving puzzles and completing challenges...all without getting caught! Play at any time and on any day of the week with help from Dan Rooney and his virtual team. Each team racks up points as they move around the city by solving a range of Escape Game style challenges and puzzles. 

Plenty of ideas to keep you busy thorughout October and until we return next month with a run down of what's happening in and around Leicester & Leicestershire.
