Your Guide to Christmas in Leicester!

The 52-foot Leicester Christmas tree is up and decked out with 900 pretty pink, purple and blue baubles. Yes, that’s right…900 baubles. Bet you’re glad you didn’t have the job of decorating the tree this year. The Christmas Wheel of Light stands in position and preparations are well underway for the Christmas Lights Switch On. We really do have plenty of Christmas activities to keep the whole family entertained this year, so we thought we’d round them up in one handy article.

Christmas Wheel of Light 

(15 November 2019 - 6 Jan 2020)

Wheel of light

Leicester’s Christmas Wheel of Light has returned to Jubilee Square, bringing yet more festive fun to the heart of Leicester’s city centre. Enjoy breath-taking views around Jubilee Square and beyond. Tickets are available at the door and are priced at £4 for children and £5 per adults. Take advantage of family tickets costing £15 (2 adults, 2 children or 1 adult and 3 children).


Jubilee Square Ice Rink

(5 December 2019 - 5 Jan 2020)

Ice rink

The incredible real Ice Rink returns to Jubilee Square again this year, by popular demand. This year its even better with the addition of the outdoor trail giving skaters the option to skate inside and out with magnificent views of the Christmas Wheel of Light.


Santa in the Square

(7 December 2019 - 22 December 2019)

Santa in the Sqaure

Santa Claus is coming to town… to be precise he’s coming to Leicester’s New Market Square. Come and meet Santa for FREE from the 7 – 22 December for a truly magical experience for the whole family. Meet the man in red in his wonderfully decorated grotto and don’t forget to capture the perfect moment and share your pictures on Visit Leicester Facebook and Twitter with the hash tag #santainthesquare and #christmasinleicester. It’s an outdoor event so make sure you wrap up warm!


Santa’s Wonderful Sleighboat

(7 December - 23 December)

Santa's Sleighboat

It’s the fourth year running of Santa’s Wonderful Sleighboat run by the Peter le Marchant Trust. Experience a special 45-minute Santa’s Sleighboat trip and meet Santa and his elves along the way in an enchanting journey down the Grand Union Canal.


Small Space Santa Special

(20 December)

The perfect treat for the little ones with the Small Space Santa Special on 20 December. Enjoy songs, stories, games plus a visit from the jolly man in red as he pops to the National Space Centre en route from the North Pole.

Christmas Wreath Making

(12 December)

If you want to get creative this Christmas, head down to The Guildhall on 12 December with a festive wreath making workshop. Enjoy a glass of mulled wine and minced pies in the beautiful medieval Guildhall. If you don’t feel festive already, you will after this event!


BID Leicester presents : Lightweight

(12- 21 December)

Lightweight

The nights are much darker, but don’t despair as the skies over New Market Square will be bathed in light as BID Leicester presents Lightweight. A giant inflatable sphere, four metres across, glowing with vibrant colours and imaginative imagery, when suddenly you see the face of you and your friends. It’s a unique and interactive installation located alongside Santa in the Square this Christmas.


Party in the Park with Santa

(14 December)

Bet Santa’s a fun ol’chap to party with!! The Twinlakes Party in the Park with Santa is the perfect way to find out plus it’s a charming event to really get you in the Christmas spirit. For one evening only you can join Santa, Mrs Claus and their dancing Elves for a special Santa Supper and dancing at Twinlakes Winter Wonderland.


Christmas at Twycross Zoo

Experience the magic of Christmas this festive season at Twycross Zoo. Christmas at Twycross kicks off Saturday 30 November with the Christmas Fayre taking place from 10am -5pm. Sample a variety of scrumptious festive food and drink including hot dogs, burgers, pigs in blankets, mince pies, mulled wine, beer and more. Meander through the many Christmas gift stalls for a chance to find the perfect gift for your nearest and dearest. Don’t worry if you miss out this weekend as you’ll be able to enjoy more Christmas events during the festive season including Stories with Santa, Santa’s Penguin Encounter, Santa and Elves Christmas Show plus Breakfast with Santa & Supper with Santa. Christmas Toys and Steam Day at Abbey Pumping Station

Last but not least is the Christmas Toys and Steam Day at Abbey Pumping Station. It’s the perfect start to Christmas! Enjoy listening to music and take in the sights of the Abbey Pumping Station. It takes place Sunday 8 December from 12 -5pm.

Beaumont Shopping Centres Christmas Celebrations

Throughout December Beaumont Shopping Centre will be treating shoppers to Santa's magical grotto all the way until Christmas Eve. Little ones will have the chance to tell Sanata what they really really want and even leave with a special Chrsitmas gift. Entry is £3.50 and for further information on opening times visit Beaumont centres website.
