Join our guest speaker as they explore different aspects of the expulsion of Ugandan Asians and their impacts on the city, county and further afield. Details of each speaker and topic to follow.

    Join Colin Hyde from the East Midlands Oral History Archive as he explores the Ugandan Asian story using examples from oral history, local radio and video collections held by the archive.


  • Friday 11th November - A Curator’s Perspective

    Join the lead curator of the Rebuilding Lives: 50 Years of Ugandan Asians in Leicester exhibition, Professor Graham Black, and discover some of the challenges and behind-the-scenes moments that went into creating the powerful story of Ugandan Asians in Leicester.


  • Friday 9th December - A Gift to Leicester from Idi Amin Dada

    Join Jaffer Kapasi OBE as he recounts his experiences and reminiscences of life in Uganda before the expulsion and how those experiences shaped his future choices and successes.

    Jaffer Kapasi has a long history of serving the community. Not only a Managing Director of his own accountancy practice, amongst many other Board level roles in diverse co panies, he is currently Consul General of the Republic of Uganda to the Midlands, Director of the East Midlands Chamber of Commerce, Director of Homecome Ltd, Founder and former President of the Leicester Asian Business Association, Chair of external Relations A e Zainee (charity) and patron of a number of other organisations.
