A word about our listings

A guide for Customers

These days artists and bands tend to book their tours months in advance. In order to give you the best notice of up and coming shows we list events once they have been confirmed by the band or their management.

The downside of this is that dates can change due to unforeseen circumstances, sometimes at very short notice. We do our best to ensure that this site is kept as up to date as is possible, with updates happening at least once a week.

Therefore to avoid disappointment we recommend that you check these listing prior to setting out for your show especially if you are travelling any distance.

A guide for Artists and Promoters

The quickest way to get yourself included in our listings is to send an email to musicianlive2 at gmail.com once your gig is confirmed.

We also need you to do the following -

Put the name of the artist or band name along with the date of your show in the email subject line.

Attach a reasonable sized photograph. A 72dpi, jpeg, bigger than 200x200 pixels would be fine. Please don't email files over 1mb in size. If in doubt please drop us a line before sending. Let us have your web address so we can link to your site or Myspace page.

Send us some text. Whilst we are happy to tidy up spelling or grammar, we don't have the time to write or edit copy for you. Ideally we need a nice concise 'blurb' of between 75-100 words. Please don't send a three page biography, or else we are likely to bounce it back to you. If you have a selection of press quotes send what you have as we can usually easily compile something from them. There are plenty of examples of the sort of thing we need here on the site to help you out.

Please note - If you have played at The Musician before and we have text on file, we will continue to use use it for any subsequent listings unless you supply new copy.

If you spot any errors please send an email to derek at indiecentral.co.uk.

The Luck’ is the London-born brother and sister duo of Max & Esmay Luck. Their music is influenced by childhood heroes Fleetwood Mac, The Cranberries, Tom Petty and The Eagles. The band began touring the U.K. and Europe before setting off for the US to develop their sound in California, playing iconic venues such as ‘The Troubadour’ in LA. Paul Broucek, President of Music at Warner Brothers Pictures, was in the audience at one of their shows and shortly after approached to work with them to produce their debut album. Together in LA the album was recorded, collaborating with three-time Grammy Award-winning engineer/mixer Ed Cherney (The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, Bonnie Raitt) and three-time Grammy Award winning musician/engineer/mixer Paul Hicks to mix the tracks.

The Luck’s songs have been featured on U.K. television shows such as ‘Country File’ and ‘Hollyoaks’ as well as gaining radio play in the US and Europe. Their song ‘Muscles and Bones’, also won a first place prize in the Nashville-based International Songwriting Competition.

The band are now back in London, hosting the California-inspired monthly Americana club night ‘Ventura Nights’ in Soho whilst preparing to release their debut album to the world. The Luck are playing various festivals this summer including Chagstock, Cambridge Folk Festival, CarFest South, Folk on the Dock in Liverpool and have been chosen by the AMA UK to perform on their stage at The Long Road in September. Ben P. Williams is a difficult artist to pigeonhole and is all the better for it. Discovering The Beatles LP’s in his parents cupboard aged 5, he instantly became obsessed and began a voyage of musical discovery which has lasted his whole life. Moulding the classic song-writing sound of Paul Simon with the laid-back nature of Jack Johnson, Ben draws inspiration from the greats while injecting his own wit and imagination for lyrics which perfectly encapsulate relatable experiences to make you smile.

As a guitarist, Ben has worked with Grammy award winning producers, appeared on BBC 1, ITV and Channel 5, and played concerts supporting major artists such as Nile Rodgers and Chic, Will Young, Mick Hucknall and Lisa Stansfield. He has supported artists on European tours and at festivals around the world including South By Southwest Festival in Texas.

FAIR FREEDOM

Pete Morton is a folk singer and songwriter with a wealth of great songs and stage presence. His live shows are dynamic and thought provoking, while remaining approachable and fun loving.

With his well known songs such as ‘Another Train’, ‘The Shepherds Song’, and ‘When We Sing Together’, he constantly tours. His latest CD ‘The Frappin’ and Ramblin’ Pete Morton’, with its innovative adventures of marrying talking blues style rap with traditional chorus, has received terrific views. Starting out as a busker on the streets of Europe, he has entertained all over the globe with his unique and involving style of song-writing and passionate vocal delivery. He sings from the heart, with songs that tell compelling stories and speak of the human condition from a very unique perspective. The folk tradition plays a big part in Pete’s style.

‘As a chronicler of the human condition and wry observer of history and the march of progress, Morton is up there with fellow Englishmen Richard Thompson and Chris Wood, and as a people watcher…he can get close to Ray Davis. He is that good.’ The Scottish Herald *****

The UK-based Project Blackbird’s five core members are vocalist Ming Nagel (originally from the USA), guitarist Alan Roberts, multi-instrumentalist Jamie Varley, multi-instrumentalist Jon Read (former trumpet player for The Specials), and now drummer Eddie Dublin. This “extraordinary” band, as BBC 6Music’s Tom Robinson has described them, offers an atmospheric, genre-fluid listening experience that draws equally upon intellect and emotion.
“Imagine a party at Ronnie Scott’s,” one fan suggests, “where Sade, Björk, Jeff Beck, and David Byrne meet Portishead and then go for a late night curry to exchange ideas…sublime”. This will be their first UK show following on from their tour in USA in March and April.

ALEX REX
(Trembling Bells)

Members of Trembling Bells, Rev Magnetic and Honey & The Herbs sing songs of love, loss and loathing.

It's impossible to describe Alex Neilson's sophomore solo album Otterburn without first addressing the cataclysmic event that led up to it which in this case was the very sad passing of Alex's brother Alastair in 2017.

The Frankenstein'd child of Roots-era Everly Brothers and The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Otterburn reunites Alex with a couple of his Trembling Bells band mates; Lavinia Blackwall – her voice as true as church bells – and Mike Hastings – who is reaching Brian Jones levels of multi-instrumentalist brilliance. But this is a very different beast to the Bells.

Otterburn has an ad-hoc intimacy and ability to make the epic seem small and the small seem epic that pitches it closer to Desire-era Dylan than Folk Rock aristocracy. The rest of the assembled company (Alasdair Roberts, Dave McGowan, Rory Haye et al) are among Scotland's finest.

Forged in pain and made in Glasgow, making a very decent case for the old adage about the cream rising to the top. Lap it up.

Melanie Pegge
"Great vocals, virtuoso Spanish guitar, poised intelligent song writing" - Tom Robinson (BBC 6 MUSIC 2017)

Terry Slesser, one of the country’s finest rock and blues vocalists, performing in tribute to his bandmate and friend the late, great Paul Kossoff - one of the greatest rock blues guitarists of all time. Celebrating Paul Kossoff’s entire career, the show features songs from his early days in FREE (including rock classics ALL RIGHT NOW, WISHING WELL, FIRE AND WATER etc.) through to songs from BACK STREET CRAWLER, the band Kossoff formed alongside Terry Slesser. Terry Slesser remains both a star and a master craftsman. As Paul Kossoff’s close friend and vocalist of choice, he has every right to sing every song performed by this band. Terry has assembled a great team of musicians to willingly assist him in keeping alive the memory of Paul Kossoff.

The band also features: John ‘Rhino’ Edwards, bassist with the world-famous Status Quo, Judie Tzuke, Dexy’s and Peter Green. Drummer Clive Edwards, whose resumé includes UFO, Wild Horses, Uli Jon Roth, Pat Travers. Guitarist John Buckton is relatively unknown in comparison to his band mates, but was recently reviewed as "one of the very best guitarists in British rock blues today, with a style that’s tasteful and subtle, yet which wails with true blues aggression". SIMON KIRKE himself has already said that were FREE ever to reform, John would be his choice. This is no two-bit collection of raggle-taggle pub-rock wannabes playing cover versions. This an authentic supergroup, and to all intents and purposes a direct continuation of BACK STREET CRAWLER.

2016 saw a whistle-stop 7-day introductory UK tour, which showcased her genuinely unique talent as a solo artist here for the first time, bolstered by radio plays from BBC6Music’s Tom Ravenscroft and Gideon Coe. This was followed up by a two-week tour of England and Wales in 2017, to further cement her relationship with some UK audiences.

feat: Saskia Griffiths-Moore and Jack Cookson
Doors 8:00pm
After seeing Saskia support Steve Tilston and being totally wowed by her voice, we had to bring her back for a headline gig.

Saskia Griffiths-Moore is a contemporary folk singer, blending simple acoustic songs with modern moods, melodies and meanings, and has been performing full time on the folk and acoustic circuit for three years, singing at folk clubs, theatre's and festivals alike.

Having left school with not much more than a GCSE in Astronomy, Saskia set up practice on Harley street as the world’s youngest craniosacral therapist, which she promptly left behind age 22 to follow her passion into music, learning her craft on the streets; busking, singing and touring her way through the country all the while living in her campervan without WiFi or electricity

Saskia's authentic sound has found her featured four times on Sky Television (2017, 2018), and her newest single 'All For You' received national, and regional BBC, play. The young, Baez-esque, singer-songwriter of the folk world returns year round to stage after stage to put on creative live performances nationally and internationally, and, for her sins, has been awarded Arts Council funding three times for her UK wide tours She also flaunts an endorsement from Steve Agnew Instruments in the form of an interesting looking, luthier-made, parlour guitar.
?
She now lives in London, which fulfils her need for culture, but not nature, and remains and independent and self managing artist.

The best singer-songwriters serve the song. The songwriter’s songwriter, James Maddock, who has earned the respect of masterful writers such as Bruce Springsteen and Willie Nile, has built his acclaimed legacy on humbly honouring purity of expression. His 2009 album Sunrise On Avenue C won a New York Music Award for Best Americana Album, while the follow-up Wake Up And Dream ranked among the top albums of 2011 in WFUV's (NYC) Listener Poll. With the release of Another Life (2013) and The Green (2015) Maddock continued to demonstrate why many consider him to be one of the best singer/songwriters working today.

His status as a fixture on the Folk and Americana scene is confirmed with every listen of any song in his prodigious catalog. Relix Magazine put it this way: “James Maddock possesses the kind of lived-in craggy voice that would sound authoritative if he were singing the sports pages. Fortunately, he doesn't need to do that because his compositional skills are a match for his delivery."

A New York resident since 2003, James grew up in Countesthorpe, Leicester and ranks up there with the best of our musical exports. His new full-length studio album 'If It Ain't Fixed, Don't Break It' was released on September 28, 2018.

They have always grafted hard to fine tune their craft and toured extensively leading up to 2015 at which point they started work on their most recent album – ‘Broken’. Released in July 2016 it received critical acclaim across the board. Describing Hell's Addiction as the "Bastard child of an illicit three-way between Skid Row, early Guns N' Roses and AC/DC", pretty much sums up their balls-out approach to Rock ‘n’ Roll.

In 2016, the line-up was augmented by Dan Weir (guitar) and timed perfectly for their appearance opening the 2016 Download Boardie Takeover stage. Dan has helped push their writing and sound even further, growing from strength to strength, as they work on a series of EPs beginning with their recent EP V1.0 release.

Golden Week 2019 with:

OTOBOKE BEAVER
Pitchfork “… sheer calamity and deliriously fun — supercharged, sugar-rush hardcore with breathless vocals, pogo-ing rhythms, and torrential DayGlo riffs… the fire of “Love Is Short” recalls a lineage of patriarchy-scorching girl-gang shrieks, from the Slits’ “Shoplifting” to Bikini Kill’s “Liar” and beyond.”

i-D “Their Riot Grrrl attitudes and passion for noise-rock make them stand out as true renegades in the underground scene.”

SAY SUE ME
KEXP “…jangle-pop hooks, stunning vocal melodies, and intricate guitarwork that stands up proudly against some of their influences like Yo La Tengo and Pavement…”

DRINKING BOYS AND GIRLS CHOIR are a skate-punk trio from Daegu City, Korea.
