The Criterion Free House

The Criterion Free House

The Criterion is a busy hive of boho activity...guest ales and a busy programme of gigs, music and film events are the main draws, but the Criterion's wonderful stone-baked pizzas definitely play their part.

The dough is made fresh, daily, and the exemplarily thin bases have a good chew factor, a nice light char, and are topped with decent, fresh ingredients. The whole place has a real generosity of spirit about it - The Guardian

"The Criterion is renowned for its pizza. Rather than offering a broad range of mediocre meals – as so many other pubs do – the Criterion specialises in one kind of food, and does it spectacularly well. It’s a unique selling point – or, without my marketing head on, another reason to go out of your way to come here...It’s not just good pizza – it’s superlative. Far better than you’d get in most high street Italian restaurants... The Criterion is a marvellous little hub where people from different places, on different tracks, can happily intersect and interact" -

A multi CAMRA award winner, The Criterion is also close to the heart of cask ale connoisseurs for miles around. It’s a real ale pub par excellence: a good range of beers, ciders and perries and they have a reputation for serving "the best pizzas for miles around" -
