King Richard III Reinterment Week
21 – 29 March 2015
Leicester & Leicestershire
The reinterment service for King Richard III took place at Leicester Cathedral on Thursday 26th March. As well as the service, more than 100 activities and events have taken place in the city and county during reinterment week.
The cortege carrying King Richard III's mortal remains travelled across Leicestershire into Leicester city centre on Sunday 22nd March 2015.
The king’s mortal remains were brought into the city at around 4.30pm on Sunday 22nd March, coming in via the A47 to Bow Bridge – the site of the original bridge from which King Richard is believed to have ridden out to battle at Bosworth Field in 1485.
Following a short welcome to the city, the cortege visited the nearby medieval St Nicholas Church for a short service, before travelling through the city centre to Leicester Cathedral, where it has lay in repose until the reinterment on Thursday 26th March.
The reinterment service was attended by dignitaries including the Countess of Wessex, while Hollywood star Benedict Cumberbatch gave a poetry reading to a worldwide audience.
