An exhibition of miniature portraits, organised by Leicester Society of Artists at New Walk Museum & Art Gallery.

Featuring work by artists past, present and future, LSA brings together portraits from the museum's own collection of miniatures, examples from contemporary artists including LSA members, and work by art and design students aged 16+ in local schools and colleges. 

Supported by Arts Council England, Little Selves is a fascinating show of talented work, proving that small is indeed beautiful.

Leicester Society of Artists: Little Selves Workshop with Jane French: A Monochrome Portrait

Leicester Society of Artists ‘Little Selves’ Workshop with Dr. Maria Collingham: Portraiture- Gaining a Likeness

Leicester Society of Artists ‘Little Selves’ Workshop with Gillian Adair McFarland: You and I

This workshop is offered in support of the Spark festival and is aimed at pre-school children accompanied by an adult. In this workshop the child and mother/father/carer will work together to produce a collaged portrait of themselves using inks, papers and fabric. Leicester Society of Artists ‘Little Selves’ Workshop with Mark Hancock: Cubist Card Portraits

This workshop is offered in support of the Spark festival for children aged 8 - 13 years. Inspired by the Little Selves exhibition, participants will produce a cubist portrait, which will be transformed into a cut-out 3D portrait head and finished using acrylics. This workshop is offered in support of the Spark festival for children of any age accompanied by an adult. The workshop will focus on producing a small cyanotype (blueprint) selfie using collage materials and drawings. Each workshop is 30 minutes. This workshop is offered in support of the Spark festival for children aged 8 - 13 years. Explore how other artists approach the portrait theme. Using magazines/cardboard and other 'waste' materials, explore and magnify part of the face with a very novel approach to use of colour, pattern and texture. For those who wish to have the opportunity to record from direct observation from the model provided to capture a likeness, personality and mood- using a range of dry media: pencil, charcoal, chalk and pastel- to create interesting outcomes.
